I have noticed that many women have accessed this page. I hate to leave anything blank, so I will begin trying to put my top picks–it will all be random, of course, like my life is now!
Top Picks for Tea:
My favorite tea that I drink all the time and travel with, is Yorkshire Gold. It is a very strong English tea, not for the faint of heart. I get it at Whole Foods or my favorite tea shops in town. You can also order it online from a number of sites. Just type in Yorkshire Gold and you will find it. I was so happy when all the reports came out about how good black tea is and how many anti-oxidants it has (coffee, too!). It helped me to justify my habit. I am not real fond of lots of herbal teas, or decaffeinated teas, but I do occasionally brew raspberry or ginger-peach.
Some of my favorite movies for me:
Pride and Prejudice (the newer one that came out last year, as well as the older BBC production).
Sense and Sensibility is so well done technically as well as a beautiful story. Several others–Emma, and Persuasion are also favorites.
A family favorite is Ever After.
Favorite places to visit: The Biltmore and Ashville in general. We have favorite spots there where we have retreated from life’s busyness. Great food in Ashville. Also, absolutely love Breckenridge, Co. as a mountain. No commercial places or billboards allowed (Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc.) Has a lovely bubbling stream–river going through it with lots of flowers everywhere. Also a fun town in the winter with snow and fun little shops and good eats and hot drinks.
Of course, Vienna is one of my favorite places in the world. I lived there as a young single woman and learned to love the culture. Austria is one of the unique places in Europe that has retained its Germanic culture. Many large cities have so may familiar American restaurants and fast food places that it seems like you are in America. However, in all the districts of Vienna, you find cafes and restaurants everywhere that have flowers on the tables, quiet atmosphere (no blaring rock music), no long lines of people waiting, and in general civility and beauty as a value. I love the small towns in Austria, the lake towns tucked away in the mountains, pristine and beautiful everywhere. Great places to climb and hike.
More later! Share your favorite things with me!
Favorite Authors:
Madeleine L’Engle–Wrinkle in Time (genius–ahead of her time in predicting what a post-modern world, where everyone conforms, would be like) Also love her books for women–Walking on Water, etc.
C.S. Lewis–most everything he writes feeds my soul.
Gene Stratton Porter–almost all of what she has written–many must read aloud for children. Especially The Bee Keeper, Freckles and Girl of the Limberlost
Christy
: This is another one of my favorites.

I just discovered your blog (remember the woman at the homeschool sale that went nuts over meeting you and your husband, that was me, and yes, I did blog about it! LOL!!!)
My favorites, hmmm. I love L’Engle, too. I didn’t know until recently that she has books written for adults! Christy is an all-time favorite, along with anything by Elisabeth Elliot or Emilie Barnes. And that Mission of Motherhood book is pretty good, too
I’m learning to enjoy tea (I love the idea of it), but Diet Coke is my steadfast first love for drinks.
Favorite movies: Sound of Music, Pride and Prejudice, Hunt for Red October (I know, I know. They don’t go together at all!)
My favorite place to visit is anywhere with a “true” fall–here in Texas ours is pitiful. Colorado (I’m native), Pennsylvania, Tennessee–they’re all beautiful in October.
Fun post
Oh, Sally, we have more in common than I knew! How I hope the Lord allows us to meet one day. I love English tea (although I make my individual portion not-too-strong), and especially while I am currently living in England!
Have not been to the Biltmore, but have always wanted to go. Have been to visit friends outside of Asheville many times and love that area!
And Austria…maybe my favorite place in the world! Only a day spent in Vienna so far, but several in Salzburg. Have you been to Gosau? Of course, all of the Salzkammergut region is amazing, but I’m particularly fond of Gosau See and the Dachstein mountain range behind it – truly breathtaking! We get to go there again in a little over a month…can’t wait! Need anything Austrian sent your way? I’d be more than happy to oblige…
Thanks for sharing all of this. You are such a blessing!
In His grace,
Jodie
We spent part of our honeymoon in Asheville and visited the Biltmore while there. My new husband wanted to attend a Black Walnut Convention nearby, which is how we ended up in Asheville. Really… He was in graduate school at the time, getting a Master’s in Wood Science.
I just reread the Time books and loved them all over again.
Limberlost is great but I had to laugh at a movie I saw that had been made from the book. It had hills one would find in in the Rockies and not in her native Indiana!
I just received Miss Potter as a birthday present and thought it lovely. My daughter and I both enjoyed the latest Pride & Prejudice although we like almost any movie made from a “Jane movie”. My favorite is Persuasion.
I absolutely love the Rockies! It is our favorite place to vacation, whether it be camping or renting a room at a small inn in Canmore, Alberta.
I love fresh ground, french-pressed coffee in the morning and my favorite tea throughout the day is Rooibos. I order it on-line and there are many different varieties. The one I’m sipping now is Okanagan blend…it has lavender, rose petals, and dried berries in with the rooibos. So good for you!
Laddie was my favorite Porter book and I enjoyed Girl of the Limberlost as a movie. I’m not a huge movie buff so I come up a little dry in that department.
I have loved Susan Schaeffer Macaulay, Elisabeth Elliot, Amy Carmichael’s written works.
I think some of my favorite authors right now are ones that think a little outside the box…I’ve just finished The Shack which my husband and daughter are reading right now. It tells of how God met one certain man for a weekend in the shack where his young daughter was murdered and the conversation, healing, and life transformation that ensued. Riveting!
One of my favorite things to learn right now is herbal medicine. I’ve been enjoying growing, harvesting, and putting up herbs for medicinal purposes. It’s fascinating to learn how God has given us so many things right outside our back door for our health.
Praise the Lord for Yorkshire Gold!!! Even though I was a bit sad to no longer be in an eternal state of pregnancy/nursing after 3 sweet babies in 5 years, I was so glad to be able to drink real Yorkshire Gold once more!!! I will be 30 this year and my teeth, I am sorry to say, are not white anymore thanks to that delicious beverage. Is it worth it, you betcha!
Sally,
When you were in Vienna, did you study 5 Aspects under Barbara Mouser? I am a 5 Aspects lady and see it all through your materials. I also know that you are friends with Phyllis S. who is friends with my friend Renee B. in Ohio.
Just wondering!
Living in Joy,
Adrienne
